Shamus Award four-year-old Famous Dain landed his first Saturday victory when taking out the Greenfields Lodge Handicap (1690m) on Saturday.
Ridden by Lucy Fiore, the gelding jumped a $6.50 chance from barrier three and enjoyed a nice run parked behind race-leader Lord Gannicus ($19) who kicked strongly on straightening and proved hard to get past.
The duo went neck and neck in a stirring battle over the final furlong before Famous Dain eventually got the upper hand to win by a head.
Snazzler ($16) finished a further long neck away in third place.
Famous Dain was tested over 2200m at his previous start a fortnight earlier and appreciated a sharp drop in distance to score his third win of his consistent campaign.
The Oakland Park-bred gelding has now had 18 career starts for four wins, seven minor placings and $131,652 in total earnings.
Saturday’s win continues a good run of form for Pearce Racing, with the stable producing 11 winners in the past 30 days.
