Kermadec mare Kermelia broke through for her first win at Pinjarra Scarpside on Thursday when taking out the BJS Attvest Maiden (2000m).
The four-year-old jumped the $3 favourite off the back of runner-up finishes at her previous two starts and was aided by a lovely ride by in-form hoop Brad Parnham when settled one-out and two-back in running.
Parnham nursed her into the straight before pressing the button at the 250m mark and she let down with a strong finish to defeat Declared Innocent ($7) by one-and-a-quarter lengths in a convincing performance.
Savvy Ruler ($8) finished a furtheer half-length away in third place.
Bred and raced by Amelia Park’s Peter Walsh, the consistent Kermelia has now had 13 career starts for a win and seven minor placings and looks capable of winning more races throughout the winter.
Pearce Racing will launched a three-pronged attack in Saturday’s $200,000 Group 3 Belmont Sprint (1400m) at Belmont with Triple Jay, Black Fantasy and Ginger Baker engaged in the feature race, with stablemates and last-start winners Manhattan Strip and Galaxy Affair also set to line up on the nine-even card.
