Awesome Rock gelding Outspoken Lad made a welcome return to the winner’s list at Northam on Sunday when taking out the Enright Memorial Handicap (1600m).
Having his third start back from a 13-month lay-off from racing, the six-year-old was backed from $8 into $5 and made every post a winner with jockey Brad Parnham aboard.
He relished a drop in grade and stepping out to a mile with a pair of runs under his belt and after being sent straight to the lead by Parnham, he found plenty over the late stages to defeat race-favourite Long Genes ($3.20) by a nose.
Wozzeck ($11) finished a further length away in third place.
Purchased by Pearce Racing for $60,000 at the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Outspoken Lad has now had 24 career starts for four wins, eight minor placings and $251,655 in stake earnings and Westspeed Platinum bonuses.
The victory was the Pearce stable’s 23rd of the 2024/25 season to date.
