Pearce Racing will be hoping talented three-year-old Watto’s Fury can start his campaign with a bang when he races at Belmont today.
The So Secret gelding, who will contest the Perth Racing Club Membership Handicap, has always shown above-average ability and has drawn ideally in barrier one in today’s first-up assignment.
He was thrown in the deep end on debut last year when having his first start in the Listed Perth Stakes and wasn’t disgraced when beaten just three lengths by Wacked Out.
Talented juvenile Riasc and Group Three WA Sires Produce Stakes-winner Debellatio also raced in the colts and gelding’s feature event that day.
Watto’s Fury then ran a three-quarter-length third placing behind Get That Vibe and Money Maher at his next start before having to be spelled when pulling up shin-sore following the run.
He was tuned up with an impressive trial win at Lark Hill on August 7 and occupies pre-post favouritism for today’s race with Aaron Mitchell in the saddle.
Meanwhile, handy mare Hashtag will also race first-up when she tackles the It Just Has To Be … Vert De Grece Handicap in the final event of today’s nine-race card.
The Flying Pegasus seven-year-old will jump from barrier six in the 13-horse field and Jarrad Noske will take the mount.
She comes into the 1200m event without a trial, however, has won first-up in the past and should be suited by today’s soft-track conditions.
Pearce Racing will start Superior Smile and Caress Your Soul at tomorrow’s Northam meeting.
