Rommel two-year-old Rainline scored the first win of her career at Belmont on Saturday when taking out the Celebrate WA Raceday Saturday 1st June Plate (1300m).
After somewhat luckless runner-up finishes at her first two race starts, the filly jumped a $4.40 chance and was able to go one better courtesy of a clever William Pike ride when rolling forward from barrier 10 to track race-leader Spice Is Right’s ($13) every move.
The leader skipped clear on straightening but Pike timed his run to his perfect and Rainline was able to mow him down and win by a half head passing the line.
Golden Kathleen ($1.95) finished a further three-quarter length away in third place.
Rainline’s win and two second placings from only three race starts has accumulated $115,830 in stake earnings and Westspeed Platinum bonuses and the athletic filly appears to have a promising future.
The win was Daniel and Ben Pearce’s 65th of the 2023/24 season so far which places them in second position in the WA trainers’ leaderboard and cementing them in the top five in the metropolitan premiership.
King Of France, Bird’s The Word and Ima Wild Girl are set to line up for the stable at Kalgoorlie on Sunday.
