Pearce Racing prepared a stable quinella at Northam’s Thursday meeting to continue the stable’s good form at the track this season.
Since August 1 Ben and Daniel Pearce have prepared 16 Northam starters to four wins and five minor placings.
In an even more positive sign, each of the four winners have been newly-turned three-year-olds.
Despite being sent out at the longest odds of Pearces’ three runners in the Andrew Clements and Jenna Maiden, Truth And Lies ($50.00) upstaged her stablemate and odds-on favourite Paradise Square ($1.80) at her race debut.
The Star Witness filly was second-last in the 12-horse field turning for home and was pulled to the extreme outside of the track by rider Shaun O’Donnell before unleashing a devastating finishing burst to win by a three-quarters of a length.
She ran her final 600m in an incredible 32.25 seconds to record a slick 00:57:07 overall time for the 1000m event.
Pearce Racing’s third runner in the race, Ragno Rosso ($26.50), finished in fifth place.
Truth And Lies’ win takes Pearce Racing to nine winners from 46 starters this season, posting a 19.6 per cent winning strike rate.
Meanwhile, fellow Pearce three-year-old Superior Smile may have cost himself a win when racing greenly in the Sven and Tetlow Piro Maiden (1300m) before going down by just a long-head to Triple Event ($5.60).
The Patronize gelding, who was backed into $2.90 favouritism, was very wayward in the straight but finished off well and a maiden win doesn’t appear to be far away.
The stable will saddle-up dominant last-start winner Money Maher as well as former eastern states galloper A Private Party at Saturday’s Belmont meeting.
