Shooting To Win three-year-old Platinum Shot landed her second win from her past three starts when scoring a taking out the Geraldton Foreshore Handicap (1113m) at Geraldton on Monday.
The filly started an easing favourite when jumping at $3.20, however, she proved far too strong for her rivals when tracking into the race three-wide with cover and unleashing a powerful finishing burst down the middle of the track in the straight.
Ridden by Kyra Yuill, she careered away over the final stages to defeat Grey Mistress ($26) by a length-and-three-quarters, with Clever Combat ($12) a further half-length away in third place.
Purchased for $55,000 at the 2022 Perth Magic Millions sale, Platinum Shot has now had 10 career starts for two wins, two minor placings and $79,345 in prizemoney and Westspeed bonus earnings.
The filly obtained valuable black type when finishing second to star juvenile Live To Tell in the 2022 Listed Supremacy Stakes at Ascot as a two-year-old and will hopefully be able to progress back to city class in the near future.
The Pearce stable have nine horses trialing at Lark Hill on Tuesday, including last-start Perth Cup runners Black Fantasy and Queen Alina, and will saddle up the returning Lord Vampi at Wednesday’s twilight Belmont meeting.
