Universal Ruler three-year-old Hezangelic made a terrific start to his career at Northam on Thursday when winning on debut in the Debortoli Maiden (1000m).
A three-quarter brother to Pearce Racing’s former stable star Angelic Ruler whose career was sadly cut short due after succumbing to colic complications, the gelding’s granddam is former prolific winner Tip The Angel who was raced and trained by Daniel and Ben Pearce’s father, Colin.
He jumped the $2.80 favourite with William Pike aboard in his first race start off the back of an impressive trial win at Lark Hill and enjoyed a favourable run leaders-back before peeling into the clear and looking the winner on straightening but he took some time to click into top gear.
He eventually reeled in the leader, Magic Belle ($3.60), to win by a half-length, with Plato Or Plomo ($4.60) more than three lengths away in third place.
Bred by Colin Pearce and raced by a similar ownership group to Angelic Ruler’s connections, the Pearce stable are full of hope that Hezangelic can emulate similar deeds to his former stakes-winning relative.
Pearce Racing will be represented by Queen Alina and Scenic George at Ascot on Saturday before Sunday’s York meeting where Budgerigar and Play With Desire are engaged.
