Merchant Navy gelding Galaxy Affair was able to justify his favouritism third-up from a spell at Kalgoorlie on Sunday when getting up in a thrilling finish to the Joan Percy Memorial Cup (1400m).
Starting at $2.70, the three-year-old settled one-out and one-back before getting momentarily held up on straightening but jockey Natasha Faithfull was able to find clear air at the 125m mark and the bay sprouted wings over the final stages to score by a short-neck.
Kick A Goal Son ($6) finished second with a further half-length away to Snippy Miss ($31) in third place.
Galaxy Affair put the writing on the wall for his winning performance with runner-up finishes at his first two runs back from a spell and has now had 16 career starts for four wins, five second placings and $121,599 in stake earnings.
The Pearce stable have All Brave and Madame Magic set to race at Belmont on Wednesday before Thursday’s Pinjarra meeting where Jive King and Super Romani are engaged.
