Demerit two-year-old Agent Pippa will fly the flag for WA in Saturday week’s $150,000 Group Three Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) at Flemington.
The speedy filly, who led from start to finish at her only start at Ascot on October 21, attracted attention from leading Victorian bloodstock agent Tony Cavanagh following the impressive win.
Perth couple Wesley and Sheree Martin have since sold a 50 per cent share of Agent Pippa to prominent Melbourne owner Rodney Menzies.
The filly will remain in the care of co-trainers Daniel and Ben Pearce and is due to fly to Melbourne on Monday.
Daniel Pearce paid special mention to Menzies for the opportunity and said he and his brother are very excited about her future prospects.
“We received a call from Tony Cavanagh informing us of Mr. Menzie’s interest in Agent Pippa”, Daniel said.
“It has been a lifelong dream of his to win the Maribyrnong Plate and he has now purchased a half share of the filly with the condition that she races in the Group Three event.
We’re very thankful we are able to continue training her and look forward to what the future brings.”
Agent Pippa will wear Menzies’ racing colours as part of the new ownership agreement.
The Pearce brothers say she’ll return to Perth on a charter flight with a host of Victorian horses taking part in the Ascot Carnival after the Maribyrnong Plate.
A condition of the sale on Martin’s behalf is that she will then be spelled and aimed at next year’s $500,000 Group Two Karrakatta Plate (1200m).
